Fiery Garlic-Kissed Edamame: A Japanese Izakaya Favorite

Detail

Dive into the savory world of Japanese izakaya with this fiery garlic-kissed edamame recipe! It's a quick, addictive starter, showcasing the irresistible power of garlic and a touch of heat, making it perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Edamame in pods, frozen.
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter.
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic, minced.
  • 1 teaspoon Soy sauce.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red pepper flakes (or to taste.)
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional, as soy sauce is salty.)

Instructions

1. Cook the Edamame

Bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the frozen edamame pods and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until tender-crisp. Drain well and set aside.

2. Sauté the Aromatics

In a large skillet or wok, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 30-60 seconds, or until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden, being careful not to burn it.

3. Combine and Season

Add the cooked edamame to the skillet. Toss well to coat the pods in the garlic butter. Pour in the soy sauce and continue to toss for another minute, ensuring all the edamame is well coated and heated through. Taste and add an optional pinch of sea salt if desired.

4. Serve

Transfer the garlic edamame to a serving bowl and serve immediately. Encourage guests to squeeze the edamame out of the pods and enjoy!
